Should we celebrate Mother’s Day?

By: Parentville | 3 Mar 2016

It’s Mother’s Day today! Happy Mother’s Day! You see it everywhere, but what is it all about?

The true meaning of mother’s day can sometimes be a blur to a young sleep deprived mother that smells of baby powder and old milk. You’re still busy getting into the groove of parenting, and this is just another day of a cranky teething baby, washing and organizing tiny clothes… Your child doesn’t even know what Monday is, so how could he possibly know that it’s your day and that he should celebrate you?

Sure, mums of older kids are getting cute drawings, sweet kisses and messy kitchens as their children attempt to cook for them. Meanwhile you look down at your baby, whose red scrunched up face is signaling it’s time for another nappy change…

If you’re new to all this, hang in there. It must be hard to see a genuine reason behind celebrating a holiday like this. The truth is, it’s the sweet gummy smiles, warm tiny hugs, and precious giggles that make it all worth it. Wait for the first time they say the words, “I wuv you Mummy”. It will fill your heart with love and excitement.

So celebrate the fact that you have become a mum, because you will be one for the rest of your life. Mother’s Day is not just one “randomly picked” day a year. From now on, it’s every single day.
