“There is nothing quite like us” in Chelsea

By: Parentville | 8 Dec 2017

Tally Hackett and Ruth Bridges used to work at Francis Holland in Sloane Square, in Chelsea. Ruth was the Head of PE and Tally was the Administrator and Head’s PA in the Junior School. With their “combined skill set”, they quickly realised they had the tools to be the best in their field. And this was the very beginning of Tails and Beau. We talked with Tally to find out more about this project and what are their plans for the future.

How did you came up with the idea?

We both felt there was a need for somewhere in London, which could offer excellent childcare during the school holidays, in a non-educational setting. Our vision was the same; to provide a safe and exciting environment for children to be socially, emotionally and physically stimulated.

What was your biggest challenge when you first started your own business?

I would say our biggest challenge at the beginning was time! In different ways; Ruth had just had a baby and I was still working full time at school. I’m sure any new mum or anyone with a job can empathise! Once we had our time management down there was no stopping us, it’s amazing when your business partner and yourself share the same drive. Being able to motivate each other is lovely.

Is London a good environment for starting a business?

London is the perfect place for Tails and Beau, particularly in Chelsea, where we are based. There is nothing quite like us in the area.

What is your biggest achievement so far?

Our biggest achievement was being totally blown away by the unbelievably positive feedback we received from the children and parents in July after our first activity weeks.

Who is your target audience?

Children aged between 5 and 11, oh and their parents!

How do you maintain your work/ life balance?

We are in constant contact and meet weekly to plan and discuss the business. We are so excited with the direction that Tails & Beau has taken. Being busy people, we are able to juggle quite a bit and thrive on being hard working and engaged. Where there’s a will, there’s a way!

What are your future plans?

We are taking one step at a time because the quality in what we deliver is so important to us. However, the dream would be to open Tails & Beau venues all over London…

Any advice you would give to a fellow entrepreneur?

Reputation. Treat others as you wish to be treated, it really goes to show that a little kindness goes a long way, we were very lucky to be offered help by some wonderful visiting guests (authors, entrepreneurs etc).

What are your favourite weekend activities?

We love the English countryside, and the seaside actually! Day trips make the weekend that much longer, we love spending quality time with family and friends. At Tails & Beau we are big on mindfulness and escaping the hustle and bustle makes being in the moment that much easier.
